60 YEARS OF CALIA ITALIA AT SALONE DEL MOBILE.MILANO 2025
This year, Calia Italia—one of the most renowned names in the upholstered furniture industry—takes part in both the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025 and the Fuorisalone at its Flagship Store on Via Molino delle Armi 49, celebrating a major milestone.
The company’s 60th anniversary, celebrated under the new claim “60 Years. Timeless Comfort,” serves as the guiding theme of the entire Design Week—inviting guests to take part in a family story deeply rooted in its homeland, Basilicata, and especially in Matera, a constant source of inspiration.

Its timeless charm comes to life both in the exhibition space at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2025 and in the brand’s new living concept—an ongoing exploration of comfort and beauty that embraces themes of nature, sustainability, and authenticity. The stand features a palette inspired by the local landscape—shades of brown, burnt tones, gradients of grey and beige, sand, and copper—evoking the striations of canyon rock, all enhanced by richly textured materials. Backed by the know-how acquired since 1965, each piece displayed along the exhibition path reflects the brand’s artisanal expertise and its ability to seamlessly blend contemporary style with timeless tradition.

Taking center stage in the space — showcased in all its versions, including the three-seater, two-seater, two-and-a-half-seater, and armchair, with both leather and fabric covers — is the Choco Magic model, a true emblem of Calia Italia’s 60-year legacy, as it was originally designed in 1984 by the company’s founder, Liborio Vincenzo Calia.

Now reimagined in an exclusive restyling by his son, architect and creative director Saverio Calia, Choco Magic becomes a symbolic tribute to a legacy of craftsmanship and creativity that continues to be handed down through generations. The new iteration of Magic draws inspiration from its striking 1970s design, reinterpreted with updated lines and refined details that create a harmonious balance between past and present. Defined by its armrest that extends to the floor, it ensures optimal seating comfort with soft, soap-shaped cushions resting on a slightly tilted base.” The backrest, true to the original design, is equipped with a manually adjustable headrest, allowing for a deeper, more customized relaxation experience.

The second standout piece of the collection is Freestyle, a sofa with contemporary design, available in both chaise longue and linear versions. Elevated on sleek metal legs, it features tufted seats, crafted with individually pocketed springs for optimal comfort and long-lasting durability. The armrests are manually adjustable and slide outward, while the backrests are also movable and can be tilted manually through a reclining mechanism, offering customized head support. Thanks to the Zero Wall system, the backrests seamlessly extend the seat depth, without requiring additional space. By moving the backrests backward, Freestyle transforms into a true daybed.

A best-seller by Calia Italia, the Jacob bergère features a quilted seat upholstered in leather or fabric and is reintroduced with wooden legs (instead of metal), giving it a fresh, new charm.

Building on the success of the 2024 edition, the I Sassi collection, designed by Timothee Studio, returns with its modular pieces boasting soft, organic lines inspired by the iconic Sassi of Matera. This new version features an elegant update with light-toned upholstery and a dark wood base.

Born from a collaboration that began in 2024 with the Matera-based artist Stefano Siggillino, one of the standout novelties is a refined collection of embroidered decorative pillows, designed by the artist, that evoke the iconic Sassi of Matera. The intricate craftsmanship of the embroidery draws on the ancient tradition passed down through generations of women from the Sassi, embodying the timeless memory and spirit of the place.
