60 Years of Stories, Emotions and Collectible Design

2025 marks a milestone in the history of Calia Italia: we celebrate 60 years of excellence, creativity and artisanal passion. To honor this special anniversary, we present “Interviste d’Autore”, a limited-edition series that, month after month, unveils the secrets, inspirations and emotions behind our most iconic creations. A journey into Calia Italia’s memory, told through the voices of those who brought these masterpieces to life.

Second Episode: Giuggiola — Where Memory Becomes Iconic Design

The second episode of “Interviste d’Autore” is dedicated to Giuggiola, an armchair born from a collaboration with La Sapienza University of Rome. Its design is inspired by a childhood memory of architect Saverio Calia: the braided buns worn by grandmothers.

“It filled me with joy. So, I envisioned a beautiful, comfortable, and distinctive chair—one that could enchant me. In Italian, we say ‘essere in un brodo di giuggiole’ to describe a state of pure delight—and that’s how the Giuggiola got its name.” Thus, among 75 proposals by young students, the N4 project captured the heart and creative vision of the architect and transformed into Giuggiola: an evocative name, a symbol of the perfect fusion between tradition and innovation.

A Family in Evolution

From the success of Giuggiola, an entire family of seating takes shape. Lady G draws inspiration from British elegance, Madame G pays tribute to French style, and Doña G celebrates the warmth of Spanish culture. Completing the family is Vivì, a high-back armchair designed as a sanctuary for the soul. Each piece reflects a distinct inspiration while sharing the same DNA: memory, identity, and craftsmanship.

Design Becomes a Collection

To celebrate every story, on its 60th anniversary, Calia Italia unveils “Interviste d’Autore – Limited Edition”: an exclusive series of collectible miniatures, each one bringing to life the spirit and character of the designs that inspired them.
The first in the series is dedicated to Giuggiola. A 1:12 scale miniature, 7 cm tall, 3D-printed in biodegradable PLA — an eco-friendly material derived from renewable resources such as corn. A choice that reflects Calia Italia’s commitment to combining aesthetics, sustainability, and innovation, with full respect for the environment.
The surfaces of the miniature are matte, with a raised texture that echoes the fabric’s weave, giving it a natural, authentically tactile appearance.
The colors chosen for this first edition are red, ochre, blue, and white. Red, blue, and yellow are the primary colors from which all others derive, symbolizing one of the most revolutionary movements of the 20th century: Neoplasticism. This modern movement, born in the early decades of the last century, profoundly influenced architecture and many forms of visual art, introducing a new vision defined by balance, formal purity, and chromatic harmony. Evoking that period today is a way of acknowledging its extraordinary timelessness.
White, on the other hand, is a “non-color.” It represents light, the fundamental element that makes the perception of all other colors possible. White becomes a powerful symbol: the origin, the foundation of every chromatic imagination.
Each miniature is housed in a transparent, stackable case, designed to be displayed and collected. A miniature art gallery, capturing in just a few centimeters the essence of a design that has remained coherent and visionary for 60 years.
The identification tag, featuring the year of edition — 2025 — makes the first piece even more special, officially marking the beginning of the collection.

A Collection in Evolution

“Interviste d’Autore – Limited Edition” is a project designed to evolve over time. Each new episode will give life to a new miniature. After Giuggiola come its European sisters, the footstool U’Strozz, the Day Bed Mater Familias, the iconic Hotel and Romeo, the tempting Dragèes, and the colorful Ferula.
Each seating piece, in its miniaturized version, will continue to tell the key chapters of our story, becoming both a collectible object and a cherished memory to treasure.

The Debut of an Icon: Giuggiola Limited Edition

“Interviste d’Autore – Limited Edition” is more than a celebratory collection. It is a three-dimensional story, a journey through memory, a way to preserve a fragment of our history and celebrate 60 years of inspiration, passion, and beauty together.
The first miniature has arrived: Giuggiola, 2025 Edition.
The beginning of a collection. The beginning of a new story to experience, discover, and collect.
